Knit Slouchy Pom Pom Hat Pattern
A favorite pattern is back! Some of you may have already seen this pattern on my previous site, ashleylillis.com.
There's nothing like a great knit pom pom hat to keep you going through winter. I've been inspired by so many cute pom pom hats I've seen at school pickup that I decided to put some yarn on the needles and make my own. I love the contrast of the two tones and this hat seems to have the perfect amount of slouchiness. I loved this hat so much, I've decided to share my own pattern with you all here.
Size US 15 (10.0 mm) knitting or 16" circular knitting needles
1 Stitch Marker
1 Skein each of two different colors of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick Yarn (1 skein = 106 yards)
Size as written best fits heads between 21-24 inches in circumference; however, pattern can be easily adjusted for smaller or larger sizes
In ST ST, 9.5 STS and 14 rows = 4 inches
With Color 1 (color of the ribbing and pom pom), CO 48 STS and join in the round, adding a stitch marker to denote the beginning/end of round
Rows 1-8: *K1, P1, repeat from * to end
Rows 9-12: K to end
Row 13: Switch to Color 2, K to end
Continue ST ST in Color 2 until hat measures 9.5" from CO edge
Next Row: K2TOG to end (24 STS remain on needles)
Cut a piece of yarn about 6" long and use your tapestry needles to weave that yarn through the 24 remaining STS. Pull yarn tight to close hole in the top of hat and tie off.
Create a pom pom about 2.5" - 3" in diameter (across four of your fingers) in Color 1. Attach the pom pom to the top of the hat. For instructions on how to make a yarn pom pom, see the tutorial here.
